VOTE FOR CANADA'S NEXT GREAT BEER FLAVOUR

FRESH FROM THE BREWERY

Our Innis & Gunn Lager Beer is the freshest of the fresh, pouring deliciously cold from our taps, unpasteurised and full of flavour.

At The Beer Kitchen we have 3 lager tanks, each holding 2.5 hectolitres – the equivalent of about 15 kegs in total. The initial plan was to replenish our tanks every two weeks, however, demand for this brilliant brew has been so high we are now receiving deliveries once a week. Unbelievable considering it wasn’t long ago we were welcoming our first customers!

So what’s the difference? Well, we take our deliveries directly from the brewery, with the beer bypassing pasteurisation, giving a cleaner and crisper bite. The process of pasteurisation involves heating the beer to temperatures of between 60°-70°C for a relatively short period of time. The reason beer is subjected to this treatment is because it vastly increases the shelf life, giving the brew between 6 to 12 months in a keg or bottle. Our unpasteurised Lager Beer on the other hand will be served within two weeks of arriving in our tanks.

How does this affect the flavour? Compared with our bottled or standard draught Lager Beer, the unpasteurised version has a slightly nuttier taste. We don’t see quite the same citrus notes, more the maltier characteristics coming to the forefront. Incredibly smooth and more-ish.

And once you’ve had a pint, you’ll probably be needing a little sustenance, so sit yourself down at our bar and order yourself a scotch egg. This bright brew will cleanse your palate without rinsing away too much of the salty flavours, really lifting and enforcing the flavour of the sweet sausage meat. Delicious.
