ESPRESSO BARLEYWINE NOW AVAILABLE AT THE BEER KITCHEN
The freshest bottle in our fridge is not one you’ll want to miss and if you’re not quick, you might do just that as we’ve only got 10 cases available! Innis & Gunn Espresso Barleywine is exclusive to The Beer Kitchen, you really won’t find this limited edition anywhere else in the UK, and we mean it. Even our online shop has been left empty handed. At 8.4% it is deceptively drinkable and beautifully balanced, even if we do say so ourselves! Infused with coffee from legendary roasters Brodies, which has been roasted and ground to our specifications, the beer is then finished with an infusion of cardamom, mace and cloves to create the ultimate Winter warmer.
Barleywine was the tipple of the Ancient Greeks (or so we’ve heard) and was still a favourite with the British aristocracy in the 18th Century, 100s of years later, when the desire for strong drinks like claret and brandy, was obstructed by the ongoing conflicts between France and England. Barleywines are a strong and intense beer style and confusingly no relation of their grape-derived namesake but was so-called as it typically had the strength of a wine, but made with a grain. With ABV’s generally sitting between 8 and 12% these are a far cry from the sessionable shandies and in the spirit of the season, we prefer to share a bottle, cosying up in front of the fire in our snug.
Sumptuously silky and sweet we’re matching this great brew up with our Haggis Donut made with Macsween haggis, especially fitting in honour of St Andrew’s Day. If you prefer to indulge your sweet tooth, then order up a delicious Chocolate Mousse and enjoy!
