As much as we enjoy St. Paddy’s Day kisses for our friends from Ireland, we think a liquid show of affection is even better.  That’s why we created Irish Whiskey Finish or Aged Stout for our friends across the pond.
“Ireland is known for its great stouts and amazing whiskey,” says Innis & Gunn founder and master brewer, Dougal Sharp. “We’re paying tribute to both of them in our Irish Whiskey beer.”
Our obsidian-hued, 7.4% ABV creation debuted in 2012 and has become a hit in the 20+ nations we send Innis & Gunn beer to around the world. We brew it with our beloved base malt, chocolate malt and roasted barely, and a dash of wheat for extra texture.

The beer is aged -- of course -- in our pioneering Oakerator aging device, on American oak that we infuse with Irish whiskey.
Rich, complex and ultra-smooth, Irish Whiskey Finish features dark chocolate and coffee flavors, honey and whiskey notes with oak and vanilla aromas and flavours. These charms and the beer’s velvety mouthfeel lead to a satisfying finish of dark malts and more hints of Irish whiskey.

As much as we love a glass of Guinness on St. Paddy’s Day -- okay, and on other days – we think an Irish Whisky beer makes for a fantastic Scotland-bred toast to Ireland’s patron saint and a snake’s greatest enemy.
“We use a lightly toasted oak for this beer,” says Rachel Sutherland, Innis & Gunn’s Sensory & Quality Manager, “to match Irish whiskey casks, which are typically lightly charred. This produces more of the coconut and spice notes that you get in an Irish whiskey, and less of the caramel and vanilla notes you find in American bourbon.”

“It’s got a lot of oak and whisky character,” Rachel points out, “but it doesn’t overpower the beer itself. It’s a very balanced mix of spirit and beer that’s hearty and delicious but also very quaffable.”
